The impact we choose to have #being ethical

This week we invited our intern Deepika to visit one of our partners, whom Resa Living share so many values with and together we push for women empowerment and minimizing our footprint on the environment. This blog is written from her perspective, which passionately describes the positive impact we can have on making a cleaner and conscious fashion production.
We hope you enjoy reading about the positive impact ethical fashion can have on the local communities.
With warm regards and passion for design and people.

Excitement is what I felt when I walked into the premises of our great felting partner who make our hand made unique Vintage throws for us. The playful summery breeze mixed with the colorful flowers in a small garden gave me a refreshing feel as I walked along the path. While talking to the Founder and his team, I noticed some grey pipes that were connected along the rim of the roof, curious as always I asked them what it was, to which they cheerfully explained about it being a rain harvesting technique. All the rain that would fall on the tin roof would roll down and flow through the pipe and at the end collect in a large drum below, which they used for various production purposes. Excited, they then summoned me to a corner where I could see number of water tanks along with what looked like a small well and a pit with fine net. They explained that the construction in front of me was a water Filtration System, all the soapy water that they used during the felting process would be placed into the large pit with fine net to filter out the small wool fibers that remained in the water during the washing process. The recycling and filtration of the water would from here take 20 hours before it could be pumped into another water container with water purifying chemicals from where the same process would repeat for another 20 hours and be pumped into another clean container with clean water finally running out. This filtrated water would be used for process of washing the products and again recycled. I was genuinely surprised and inspired to see such an initiative being taken by a felt company to protect the environment. Not only that, also learning they only used 100% safe Swiss dyes that have been lab tested for their products was like cherry on the cake.

Another part of why I know Resa Living partnered up with this great manufacture was because of their focus on empowering women.
The benefits the workers receive in addition to their basic salary was quite different and beneficial than other small scale companies I had come across. I was thrilled to learn the additional benefits they received were 1 and half month paid maternity leave (since 99% workers are female), flexible working hours, working from home, health insurances up to $5000 with 2 weeks paid leave in case of accidents, festival leave with half a month of extra bonus, children education funds, company transportation facility, extra payment for extra work, monthly security deposit that they can get when leaving the job, 1 day paid leave each month (which if not taken are cumulated to 12 days a year. It is then doubled and paid equivalent to 24 days at the end of the year) They also have recreational facilities like company picnics and celebrating women’s day/women’s festival together.

Looking at the bright and cheerful faces of the women who greeted me in every step, put every effort to make me feel at home and worked with every ounce of dedication on a hot summer day to create a perfect outcome was everything.
Resa Living as a team lives for moments like this where we can see how the people who bring our designs to life are working, under what conditions they do it, how we are being able to create an impact on their lives by choosing their craftsmanship, how they are personally benefiting from it. Also by supporting them how we as an ethical brand are being a part of this global movement to protect the environment as well as raise awareness about it. We really do feel honoured to be able to work with such amazing and talented group of craftsperson who are equally as passionate as us to create a change. Here’s to our Partnership!
